About 85 % of the pilgrims do the Camino by foot, ca. 14 % by bike and about 0,15% by horse. In 2014 another number will join this statistic. The Marine association of Galicia organizes two journeys by boat, through the Altantic ocean and the Mediterrean sea to Santiago de Compostela.
The motivation for this Pilgrimage is to commemorate on the one hand the pilgrimage of Francis of Assisi and on the other hand the shipping of the apostel Saint James' remains to Santiago, the original legend of the birth of the Saint James Way: In the apostel history it says, that after the death of Saint James, his disciples brought his body back to a place he once proselytized. In the 9th century the grave of Saint James was discovered and a cathedral was built upon his remains, where today Santiago de Compostela is. From this moment on pilgrims started to walk to that cathedral. In the year 1214 Francis of Asissi has joined the pilgrims to Santiago.

Alrededor del 85% de los peregrinos hacen el Camino a pie, el 14% en bicicleta y alrededor del 0,15 a caballo. En 2014 otro número se unirá a esta estadística. La asociación 'marina' de Galicia organiza dos viajes en barco, a través del Océano Atlántico y el mar Mediterráneo a Santiago de Compostela.
La motivación para esta peregrinación es, por un lado la conmemoración de la peregrinación de San Francisco de Asís, y por otro lado el viaje de los restos del Apóstol Santiago a Saniago, la leyenda original sobre el nacimiento del Camino
La historia dice que tras la muerte del Apóstol Santiago, sus discípulos rajeron su cuerpo de vuelta al lugar donde una vez el profetizó. En el siglo IX la tumba de Santiago fue descubierta y la caedral fue construída sobre sus restos, donde hoy en día está ubicada la ciudad. Desde ese día los peregrinos comenzaron a caminar hacia esta catedral. En el año 1213 San Francisco de Asís se unió a esa peregrinación.
